Leider liegt die Messlatte ziemlich hoch. Ich finde die Stimme ziemlich trocken und tremulös. Die Stimme hat keine Dämonie und ich glaube Glossop die Intrige und abgrundtiefe Verachtung für Othello nicht. Gabriel Bacquier, der große französische Bariton ist vom Stimmklang ähnlich trocken, aber finsterer, wahrhaft ein großer Gestalter. Jago muss schaudernd machen.

High D is the only great thing here. Voice is ugly, there is no chest voice. I can see what she is trying to do second time adding all these notes, but does not sound good at all.

Old fogey dropping in to comment - I was there, and the beautiful singing by Milnes, Pavarotti and the awesome Shirley Verett was only part of the story... The evening before this matinee, the Met performance of Otello almost ended after Act I, when the baritone announced that he couldn't continue, and they'd already sent the cover artist home. (No cell phones, kids -he couldn't be reached). So they called Sherrill Milnes, who was resting at home for the next day's Favorita, and begged him to save the show. He lived in the neighborhood, so arrived in short order. They had his costume ready from when he'd last appeared in that production five years earlier (Met production staff -well done) and boom - he rescued the company from a potential embarrassment. THEN, about 14 hours later, he produced the wonderful sounds heard here. Not bad.
